  2. Dr. Brunet decided to use the K-wire as an alternative to cutting the ligament that was now too short post surgery. My toe was pointing upwards after the surgery, so the K wire forces it downwards so the ligament can stretch.

  5. Hi! I just came upon your blog looking for non weight bearing workouts. I just had the lapidus fusion procedure 2 weeks ago and I have two screws similar to your left foot. I was wondering if the screw being so close to the surface ever bothered you? I know that it is supposed to be permanent, but I have skinny feet and am worried about it protruding under the skin and feeling uncomfortable.

    Also, are you happy with the surgeries and able to run, work out, etc with no issues? I have my second surgery coming up and am a bit nervous, since the first foot wouldn’t have had a chance to heal fully so I can evaluate the results.

    1. Hi Ruby! Glad you found my blog. The screw close to the top of my foot rarely bothers me. When I do exercise such as TRX training and my feet are suspended in the air while in plank position, the pressure of the band over the screw is unbearable. And once in a while when I tie my shoelaces too tight, it hurts. Otherwise, it’s really a non issue. I can work out regularly, the only thing I find is that my feet talk to me when I’m doing a lot of jumping or squats for an extended period. Overall, for me it was worth it and I would do it again. Good luck with your recovery! I hope you enjoy your time off like I did!

  6. Thanks for giving me piece of mind. As a person who worked out every day (running, lifting and spinning), it’s hard to be patient. My husband caught me doing laps around the long kitchen island with my crutches for cardio, lol! But I see the light at the end of the tunnel. I think the hardest part is the back pain from the first two weeks when you’re supposed to stay in bed with the leg elevated!
